Cyclope ThermalShield

Control for the JS-MINI256-9 thermal camera over Bluetooth and WiFi.

Cyclope ThermalShield

Cyclope ThermalShield is a PCB —or a set of PCBs— that extends the JS-MINI256-9 thermal camera (256×192, 25 fps, 8–14 µm) and lets you control it. The picture goes out as analog video (CVBS) straight from the sensor to your viewer or monitor; the ESP32-C3 never touches the video, it only tunes the sensor.

It is set up over WiFi or Bluetooth from HPA Commander, the Apple Watch or the Universal LCD, and updated over OTA: palette, brightness, contrast, detail enhancement, noise reduction, mirroring, shutter (FFC) and dead pixels. Settings are stored in the sensor itself.

Status: alpha, in development and testing at the same time. The PCB side is ready; the enclosure, the sight and the helmet mount are still to be developed.

FAQ

Does the ESP32 process the video?

No. The image comes out as analog video (CVBS) straight from the sensor; the board only tunes the sensor.

Are the settings saved?

Yes, on the sensor itself, so they survive a power cycle.
