OpenProtocol-HPA
A common language for HPA electronics.
Open-HPA is an open protocol that lets FCUs, remotes and accessories for airsoft HPA replicas talk to any app over Bluetooth or WiFi. No programmers, no cables and no closed tools.

What Open-HPA is
Every HPA FCU maker ships its own programmer, cable and app. Open-HPA starts from the opposite idea: a single protocol, open and documented, describing what each device is, the status it publishes, the settings it accepts and the actions it supports.
That description lives in a JSON catalog. An app, a remote or a web page reads the catalog and knows, without being updated, how to talk to a new board, new commands or another firmware version. The safety logic always stays in the device firmware.
Declarative catalog
Each device is described in a device.json: status, settings and their limits, groups, actions, profiles and firmware. Adding support doesn't require shipping a new app.
Bluetooth LE and WiFi
The same data model over GATT or over the device's own WiFi (REST + WebSocket). No internet, no accounts: everything is local.
Portable profiles
JSON setups (open-hpa-config / open-hpa-profile) you can export, share and upload to another compatible device.
Verified OTA
Per-board firmware releases with sha256 and magic byte, plus a safety checklist before flashing: trigger released, battery and SAFE.
How it fits together
- 1 · The deviceThe FCU or accessory publishes its status and accepts commands according to the protocol.
- 2 · The catalogA JSON file describes the device: what can be read, what can be tuned and within which limits.
- 3 · The clientHPA Commander, the Apple Watch or the Universal LCD build their interface from the catalog.
Ecosystem profiles

FAQ
What is Open-HPA?
An open protocol and JSON catalog describing how to control airsoft HPA FCUs, remotes and accessories over Bluetooth LE and WiFi, plus a family of devices and an app that use it.
Is it open source?
The protocol specification is published on GitHub (OpenProtocol-HPA). Each device's firmware and hardware have their own license.
Do I need internet or an account?
No. The app talks to the device directly, over Bluetooth or the WiFi network the device creates. It only downloads the catalog and firmware when it's online.
Can I build my own compatible board?
Yes, that's the point. If your firmware implements the protocol and you publish its device.json, any Open-HPA client can control it.
When are the apps out?
HPA Commander is in review on the App Store and Google Play. Download links will show up here as soon as they're live.
